Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt feels simultaneously fresh and familiar. The premise is definitely original, but Kemper's hopelessly naive Kimmy doesn't seem so different from Erin from The Office, and Krakowski's self-absorbed socialite definitely has a few things in common with Jenna Maroney. The humor, too, is very 30 Rock. Any fan of that show will recognize Fey's signature mix of wacky and sharp.
In fact, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was conceived as an NBC series before the network sold it off to Netflix. It seems to be doing just fine so far in its new home — it got a two-season order before the first episode had ever aired. No "save this show" campaigns for this one.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's 13-episode first season will hit Netflix on March 6. Lauren Adams, Sara Chase, Sol Miranda, and Carol Kane also star.
From "30 Rock" executive producers, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comes this hilarious new comedy series starring Ellie Kemper ("The Office," "Bridesmaids") as a woman who is rescued from a doomsday cult and starts life over as a nanny for an Upper East Side socialite (Jane Krakowski from "30 Rock") in New York City. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers and a couple way-past-due library books, she takes on a world she didn't think even existed anymore.
