Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow Will Be Back For 'Captain America: Civil War'
There are many questions surrounding the 2016 film, Captain America: Civil War, and slowly they're being answered. We already know the basics: Film one of Phase Three will come from the same writers and directors of The Winter Soldier, and most of the cast will be back, with new additions Robert Downey Jr. and Chadwick Boseman as Iron Man and Black Panther. The crux of the film will be a disagreement between Iron Man and Cap (Chris Evans) but there will be other foes as well, primarily Crossbones, played by Frank Grillo.
We recently learned that the film would be similar in tone to The Winter Soldier and Peggy Carter might play a small role too. But what about the rest of The Avengers, especially those who don't have their own solo films in Phase Three? Well, directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently did an interview and confirmed at least one of them will appear in Civil War. Scarlett Johansson will reprise her role as Black Widow come May 6, 2016. The quote came from an international interview found by Comic Book Movie. It's the first question.
Now, we'd all assumed Widow would be back, especially since the huge role she played in The Winter Solider. But with Avengers: Age of Ultron putting the fate of all the heroes in question, it's nice to know she'll play a role here.
So what exactly will that role be? You'd imagine she'll stand with Captain America but, then again, her tumultuous friendship with Tony Stark could also create a bond. That's a real love/hate relationship, as many of Stark's interactions are.
When Civil War was announced, Kevin Feige was asked about Black Widow's role in Phase Three, and played it relatively coy:
Black Widow couldn't be more important as an Avenger, herself. Like Hulk, the Avengers films will be the films where they play a primary role. Her part in Avengers: Age of Ultron is very very big, and further develops and further enhances her character. The plans that we have for her throughout the rest of the Avengers saga is very very big, and lynchpin, in fact, to those films. So instead of taking her out there, or instead of doing a prequel, which we haven't done yet, continuing the forward momentum and the continuity of the cinematic universe. Of which Widow is a key, key part.
Are you glad to hear that Johnasson will be back? Do you think Civil War is in any danger of being overstuffed with superheroes considering we now know it has Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Black Widow, Crossbones and The Winter Solider at the very least?
