'Everly' Trailer: Salma Hayek Gets Her Own 'Die Hard'
Christmas came and went last week in the real world, but in the first Everly trailer the holiday has just arrived. And it's not looking very merry or bright for the poor title character.
Salma Hayek leads the Joe Lynch-directed actioner as a call girl who's become a police informant. Needless to say, this doesn't sit well with her mob boss ex (Hiroyuki Watanabe). He sends a string of killers to her apartment in order to finish off her and her family, forcing Everly to defend herself in any way she can. The film hits VOD in January then theaters in February but you can watch the Everly trailer after the jump.
The Everly trailer is making the rounds on YouTube. RADiUS-TWC is distributing.
It's a shame Everly isn't getting a bigger push, because this seems like it could be pretty entertaining. The action looks solid, the humor looks dark, and the role of a tough-as-nails action hero seems to suit Hayek pretty well. It also makes pretty great use of the setting, turning the limitations of Everly's apartment into an asset.
Our own Germain Lussier was a big fan of Everly when he caught it at Fantastic Fest this fall, likening it to another Christmas classic, Die Hard: "The film never reaches the heights of that classic, but it keeps us suitably engaged because we never ever know what's going to come through that door next."
Everly lands on VOD January 23, 2015 and in theaters February 27, 2015.
Here's the synopsis from Fantastic Fest:
It's Christmas time, but all is not well in the world of Everly (Salma Hayek). A call girl by trade, Everly has turned against her gangster boss Taiko (Hiroyuki Watanabe) and become a police informant. In response, Taiko has put out a hit on Everly and her family. Soon, every criminal in town wants to cash in. Everly's survival instincts quickly kick in as she matches wits and firepower with Taiko and a seemingly endless stream of killers.
