Jon Favreau Wants To Open Restaurant Based On 'Chef'
Jon Favreau's Chef is one of the biggest surprises of 2014. Not just the fact that the movie is so good, but because it did so incredibly well. In an era where small movies consistently struggle to find an audience, the combination of food culture and high powered Hollywood stars shot Chef, a modestly priced film to say the least, to a take of over $45 million worldwide. The film hits Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday September 30 and that's just one step in keeping Chef alive for Favreau.
In a new interview, the writer/director confirmed he's looking at potentially opening a Chef movie restaurant with Roy Choi, the celebrity chef who created all the food in the film.
Speaking to Yahoo Movies, both Favreau and Choi echoed the news they want to turn the Chef movie into a restaurant:
Favreau: I love sharing the food with people, so that they could see that food really is as good as it looks. It's not the wisest business venture, but for me it's a way to let the movie live on and connect with the fans.
Choi: We want to turn this into a real restaurant. When people got out [of screenings], they wanted that thing to be real.
If the Chef movie restaurant happened, it would be in Los Angeles, which is where the majority of the movie takes place. The rest of the movie takes place in Miami, Austin and New Orleans as Favreau's character drives his new food truck across the country with his son and best friend.
When Chef hits Blu-ray Tuesday, you should definitely check it out. Besides the film's affinity for food, it's a really good family story about a father and his son, as well as a pretty of-the-moment look at social media like Twitter and Facebook. It has a lot going for it. Just don't watch it hungry.
