Rumor: Will 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' Change The Team Roster?
Potential Avengers: Age of Ultron spoilers below. Proceed with caution.
Marvel Studios Kevin Feige might be vague, but he very rarely lies. He told us Thanos would be in Guardians of the Galaxy years before it happened. He proclaimed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier would change the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it did. There are plenty of other teases that have yet to pay off, but which we believe will do so. One in particular concerns the Avengers.
Feige has long said what he loves about the team is that the core members could be changed along the way. Just because Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow are the team at the end of The Avengers and beginning of Avengers: Age of Ultron, that doesn't mean they'll always be the only team members.
Now, a new rumor suggests Feige's prophecy will come true and Avengers: Age of Ultron will significantly change up the team roster by the end. Read the potential Avengers: Age of Ultron spoilers below.
The rumor comes from Badass Digest which apparently has pretty intimate knowledge of the Avengers: Age of Ultron script. Or at least an earlier version of it.
Again, potentially major Avengers Age of Ultron spoilers below.
According to the report, Avengers: Age of Ultron ends with Captain America assembling a whole new team. Who is on this team and why is the team being changed? We do not know. What the rumor states though is this new team is a mix of characters old and new including some that are introduced only in this scene. The only person specifically mentioned is Ms. Marvel, aka Captain Marvel.
However, the article states Marvel is reportedly having second thoughts about introducing the character in this seemingly off the cuff way, hoping to give her a bigger debut, possibly in her own movie. That may or may not be a response to some recent criticism of not making a female superhero movie.
Badass also surmises the actual members of this scene – if it's in the film at all – might not be decided on for months. Filming it would likely be part of scheduled reshoots or pick ups, which would give Marvel time to cast some new characters and simply keep the mystery longer. Ms. Marvel could still show up there. Plus uou'd have to imagine characters like Doctor Strange and Ant-Man could end up here so audiences get acquainted with them leading into Phase 3. You'd also guess Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be part of the team by the end of the film.
Also, don't forget this quote from Captain America 3 directors The Russo Brothers earlier this week about that film, which takes place after Age of Ultron:
The great thing about the Marvel universe, just like the publishing, it's a very vast, inter-connected universe, where characters will have their rise and fall, so to speak, and hand off to other characters. As the cinematic universe moves forward, you may start to see the cinematic universe adopt that same pattern, as the publishing has, where there's closure with some characters and new beginnings with other characters. How those hand-offs are made is always part of the fun.
All this speculation leads me to wonder, what happens to the core characters from the first movie? Will some of them die in the film? Will they give up being superheroes? The possibilities are endless and it's a really cool dramatic beat to consider at as we get excited for what Joss Whedon has in store on May 1.
