Cool Stuff: 'The Avengers' Hot Toys Chitauri Commander Sixth Scale Figure
Sideshow Collectibles sent me a sample of Hot Toys' Chitauri Commander Sixth Scale Figure from Marvel's The Avengers. Lets unbox this figure and take a look at whats inside. After the jump you will find photos of the Hot Toys Chitauri Commander Sixth Scale Figure Set, alongside my thoughts on the product.
The Avengers is a favorite among superhero film fans, and the villains in the film were a race of grey-skinned, six-fingered reptilian aliens known as the Chitauri. Loki employs the Chitauri foot-soldier army to help accomplish his secret agenda. Hot Toys has recreated the leader of the Chitauri clan, known only as the Commander, in one-sixth scale. Lets take a look at this new release.
Sideshow/Hot Toys Chitauri Commander Sixth Scale Figure Reviewed
Sculpted by Joseph Tsang, the figure is incredibly detailed, as is almost anything Hot Toys produces. The paint job by Lee Yoong Young features a nice blend of skin tones, adding to the detailed skin texture, and a great worn and battled look to the alien armor. The figure stands about 12 inches in height and features over 22 points of articulations. While the figure is incredibly posable, I must admit that some of adjustments in this figure seem to require more push and pull than other Hot Toys releases.
As with most Hot Toys releases, the Chitauri Commander figure comes with a bunch of extra accessories: Two pairs of interchangeable palms including apair of partially clenched palms and a pair of relaxed palms, a removable gold colored helmet and mask, gold colored shoulder, bicep, forearm, thigh and body armor. The helmet and mask splits into a few pieces for removal and attachment, which isn't a simple assembly.
And of course it wouldn't be a Chitauri figure if it didn't come equipped with some cool Chitauri alien technology: a Chitauri arm canon and Chitauri grenade. I kind've wished that Hot Toys would have included a light up feature with the gun, but it looks cool without one. The arm canon attaches to the socket on his hand (you need to remove one of the hands to attach).
The figure comes with a very cool looking city rubble diorama stage from the battle of New York sequence of the film. The figure stand is translucent and doesn't call much attention to itself. The diorama comes with a bunch of extra pieces including a large chunk of a brick wall, a lone broken brick, a large chunk of concrete rubble and a very realistic looking metal street sign (featuring an arrow). This diorama base adds a lot to the display of this figure.
My only real complaint about the Hot Toys Chitauri Commander Sixth Scale Figure is that its not a character that is necessary for every fan's sixth scale figure collection. I'm not sure the figure is great on its own, but paired with any of the Hoy Toys sixth scale Avengers team figures it creates a cool scene and elevates the display of those figures.
