Michael Giacchino To Write 'Jurassic World' Score

With J.J. Abrams using John Williams to score his big 2015 release, Abrams' frequent collaborator is stepping into Williams shoes. Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino will write the score for Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World. 

The Wrap broke the news of the composer and got this quote from him:

My first stop-motion movies at 9-years-old involved stories where dinosaurs and men were trapped together on long-lost islands or far away planets. My first composing job was to write the score for the Steven Spielberg-produced video game based on the film 'The Lost World,' which was one of the earliest console video games to feature an original orchestral score. Having the chance to work on this new movie with the talented director Colin Trevorrow is an incredible opportunity to bring full circle the journey of dinosaurs and film that started in my backyard over 30 years ago.

Fans of John Williams' iconic score shouldn't be worried. As has been the case with other sequels that followed Williams' work (such as Superman Returns or Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), this score will "honor" that music. Here's what Trevorrow had to say:

Michael Giacchino is a fiercely creative musical mind and a true 'Jurassic Park' fan. While this new score will honor the indelible work of John Williams, our mission is the same as the film itself–to create something bold and new for people who love dinosaurs.

Giacchino is currently finishing work on Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and will follow that up with the Wachowski Siblings Jupiter Ascending and Brad Bird's Tomorrowland. Then he'll tackle this one.

With John Williams not available, you'd have to imagine fans will be extremely happy that Giacchino is writing the music for Jurassic World. He's a fan favorite thanks to his work on The Incredibles, Up, Lost, and the Star Trek films. Are you happy Giacchino is doing the Jurassic World score?
