Robert Zemeckis' 'To Reach The Clouds' Adds Ben Kingsley And More
Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, and Charlotte Le Bon are set to join Joseph Gordon-Levitt on the Manhattan skyline. The trio have just been cast in Robert Zemeckis' To Reach the Clouds, about high-wire walker Philippe Petit's 1974 attempt to walk between the Twin Towers — 1,350 feet off the ground. Get all the details on their roles after the jump.
Gordon-Levitt has been confirmed for the lead role of Petit since February. The other three actors are currently in negotiations, according to THR. Dale will play Petit's pal, Kingsley Petit's mentor, and Le Bon Petit's street musician girlfriend.
To Reach the Clouds is based on Petit's own memoir of the same title. It centers around Petit's most famous stunt, the Twin Towers walk. On the morning of August 7, 1974, Petit stepped off the South Tower onto a steel cable and spent the next hour or so walking back and forth between the two buildings. The event was quite recently depicted in the 2008 documentary Man on Wire.
Because Petit had set up the stunt illegally, he was arrested the second he stepped off the wire. To Reach the Clouds will be a heist movie of sorts, chronicling Petit and his friends' attempts to prepare the stunt without getting caught.
Dale has had supporting roles in several high-profile pics recently, including Iron Man 3, World War Z, The Lone Ranger, and Zemeckis' Flight. He'll next be seen in David Mamet's Blackbird and Joe Carnahan's Stretch, and has a starring role lined up in the supernatural actioner Spectral.
Oscar winner Kingsley was also in Iron Man 3, as well as the YA thriller Ender's Game. His upcoming slate includes Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings and Night at the Museum 3. Le Bon is a French actress who has starred in Michel Gondry's Mood Indigo and the fashion biopic Yves Saint Laurent. She makes her American film debut later this year in Lasse Hallström's The Hundred-Foot Journey.
To Reach the Clouds will shoot this summer in Montreal.
