Should 'Game Of Thrones' Fans Be Rooting For Arya Stark?
[The following contains SPOILERS for everything through this week's episode of Game of Thrones (Season 4 episode 1). No book spoilers for future episodes here, or in the comments please.]
In this week's episode of A Cast of Kings, I mentioned how I found the end of the season 4 premiere to be a bit disquieting. Sure, Arya Stark is one of the most sympathetic characters of the series, and sure, us viewers want to see her exact vengeance on the Lannisters for the heinous crimes they've committed against House Stark. But as the credits played and the music swelled and Arya Stark rode off with The Hound on her newly won horse, I couldn't help but think: we've just seen a child murder another human being out of revenge. And the show wants us to feel triumphant about this? Like Bad Fans?
Or does it? After the jump you'll find my latest video essay, in which I attempt to divine the showrunners' intentions through their use of music in this episode.
