'Gotham': The Riddler Cast As Pilot Episode Guest Star

The Batman prequel show Gotham will show us the formative days of future police commissioner James Gordon, and the development of some of the villains who will eventually make up the core of Batman's rogues gallery. We've seen casting choices for people like Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, and Selina Kyle, who will eventually be better known as Catwoman.

Now Cory Michael Smith (Camp X-Ray) has been announced as the actor playing Edward Nygma, aka The Riddler. 

Deadline and EW report Smith's casting, saying that the character will just start off as a guest in the pilot, but that he could end up being a regular on the series. The site also describes this particular version of Edward Nygma: he's "a brilliant but socially awkward forensic scientist who's eccentric and outgoing and desperate to be liked."Gotham also stars Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon; Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock; Jada Pinkett Smith playing new gangster Fish Mooney; Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth; Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle; and Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin. We don't have a premiere date for the pilot, which comes from exec producer Bruno Heller (The Mentallist) and director Danny Cannon.
