Fox Dates 'Fantastic Four 2,' 'Wolverine' Sequel, Mystery Marvel Project And Ridley Scott Film
Fox has set a whole group of new release dates, including one that suggests a load of confidence in Fantastic Four, which hasn't even shot yet. A second Fantastic Four outing will now be seen in 2017, with a Wolverine sequel also set to hit screens again that year. And 2018 will have another of Fox's Marvel films, but we don't know which one at this point. Finally, there's a mystery Ridley Scott film set for 2016 — is that Prometheus 2?
THR reports the suite of date additions and changes. The studio has committed to a date for a Fantastic Four 2, with July 14 2017 staked out on the calendar for the potential sequel. The first film is penned in for June 19, 2015, with Josh Trank directing Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller as the team.
Not only that, but now we've got a release plan for James Mangold's next Wolverine film, which is now set for n March 3, 2017. That's an interesting date, which reflects the fact that the studio can rely on a Wolverine movie to perform, and knows it doesn't have to crowd the summer slate with it.
There's no title for the Wolverine movie at this point, and it seems weird to call it The Wolverine 2, since The Wolverine itself was technically a sequel. That settles the question raised recently by Mangold, when he said that the Wolverine film would hit after X-Men: Age of Apocalypse.
In addition, Fox has set a new date for a new Marvel film that is yet to be announced, with July 13 2018 set for the new project. This could be X-Force, or another film related to the X-Men or Fantastic Four. We have no reliable prediction for the identity of this one, frankly.
But, wait, there's more! A new, as yet unnamed Ridley Scott movie is now on the calendar for March 4, 2016. Could that be the still-discussed Prometheus sequel? We haven't heard much about it, but in November of last year Scott said the script for the sequel was done. "Prometheus 2 is written," he said. "I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015."
Seems like we'd need to have heard more about that for it to be ready in two years, but there's always the chance that development has been quietly taking place over the past year. And Taken 3 has been slated for January 9, 2015.
Finally, some changes:
