Universal Wants A 'Riddick' Sequel, Says Vin Diesel
Riddick had a long, hard road to the big screen. The Chronicles of Riddick's poor box office performance left the very idea of a sequel in doubt, leaving Riddick stuck in development hell for a long, long time. Then, even once production got underway, they were hit by troubles.
Still, Vin Diesel and David Twohy refused to give up, and last year they were finally able to release the next chapter of their interplanetary saga. The film performed decently in theaters, but is apparently doing great on DVD. So much so, Diesel says, that Universal is eager to develop a sequel. Hit the jump to watch his announcement, complete with dancing and lip-synching to Katy Perry and Beyoncé. (Really.)
I'm just excited, and happy, and I'm shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There's no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. And you guys hve been a part of our pge since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated R, and to do it with such a low budget. It's a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much. Yeah, I'm excited, and of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.
Or, if you'd prefer to watch it yourself, here's the video. The Riddick talk begins around 3:12, but it's worth watching the stuff around it because Diesel dancing alone to pop music is adorable.
