Here's How Agent Coulson Stayed Alive After 'The Avengers'
After teasing it for ten episodes, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally revealed exactly how Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) returned on the show after being killed by Loki in The Avengers. Details are below.
In the latest episode of the show, called The Magical Place, a bunch of stuff goes down with hacking, abductions and more. But the real meat for people who don't watch the show is as follows.
In the pilot episode, when Coulson was asked how he survived, he talked about going to Tahiti, saying "It's a magical place." Well that "magical place" was never real. This episode revealed that Coulson really died in The Avengers. He was dead for several days. So said the doctor Coulson tracked down, based on his brief memories of the time. When he asks how it's possible to come back to life after being dead for several days, the doctor said "Director Fury moved heaven and earth. He had a team of scientists working around the clock, using procedures that no good doctor would ever allow." So, basically, Nick Fury became Dr. Frankenstein.
During these multiple inhuman surgeries Coulson's brain apparently was fried, and he begged for death. "After what you had been through, we wanted to restore the man you had once been so we gave you a pleasant memory of a beautiful island. We didn't want you to be that thing," the doctor said. "You had lost your will to live. We tried to give it back." Which they did, by messing with his brain and implanting memories of Tahiti.
So the question is now, is that it? Did Nick Fury simply send Coulson away to surgery after the film and keep him alive at any cost? If so, why? I imagine we'll hear even more in the coming months on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
What did you think of this surgical explanation?
