Frank Grillo Suggests Crossbones Could Appear In Future Marvel Movies
Outside of a trailer and a few scenes screened at conventions, very little is known about Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We know S.H.I.E.L.D. plays a part, we know Bucky comes back as the titular villain, there's some flirtation between Cap and Black Widow, and the film is the primary precursor to Avengers: Age of Ultron. But why and how does that all fit together? We'll have to wait until April 4 to find out.
One character who plays a particularly mysterious role is Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, who is portrayed by Frank Grillo. Up to now the actor, best known for his work with Joe Carnahan, hasn't revealed too much about his role. In a new interview though, he called The Winter Soldier an "origin story" for a lot of characters and says Crossbones could return in future Marvel movies.
Grillo spoke to Crave Online about his new film, Homefront, and said the following about Captain America: The Winter Soldier:
It's an origin film. You meet people who are going to be around for a while, so they introduce the characters. It's almost like it's a series. It's fun. I can't say very much about it because Marvel's very strict about what you're allowed to say. The movie, we've seen bits of it, and it is spectacular.
After talking about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the interviewer then said "I imagine they have plans for Brock in the movies." Grillo's response:
They do actually. We'll see what happens. We'll see if the fans respond to Brock and how it goes.
That suggests whatever happens with Rumlow/Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier either doesn't complete the character's true journey, or at least he doesn't die. From there, the actor has probably had some speculative discussions with Kevin Feige and others of how and when they might bring the character back if so needed. But as we know, very little of Phase 3 is set in stone just yet and if audiences don't care about the character, there are surely plenty of others to bring in.
Do you think Crossbones would be a good villain for a third Captain America film? Where else could he come back?
