Charming Cast Is Charming In The 'Pacific Rim' Gag Reel
Saving the world from a terrifying race of giant sea monsters is serious business. Making a movie about saving the world from a terrifying race of giant sea monsters appears to be a whole other matter.
Although the characters of Pacific Rim weren't much given to smiling, giggling, or goofing off — they seemed pretty preoccupied with the whole "cancelling the apocalypse" thing — the cast and crew apparently found plenty of opportunities to laugh on set. Check out an adorable gag reel after the jump.
It shouldn't come as a big surprise that the Pacific Rim team was so adept at getting each other to laugh, considering how insanely charming Guillermo del Toro and his stars seem in real life. This set looks exactly as fun as we hoped a Guillermo del Toro set would be. As if we needed any more reason to be jealous of Peter's chance to visit.
Some of the comic moments here are genuine mistakes — flubbed lines, dropped props, and awkward stumbles, many of them courtesy of Charlie Hunnam — but some of it just seems to be these guys having fun. The video also offers a peek at Charlie Day's improv-heavy process for getting Dr. Newt Geiszler just right. Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi, Max Martini, Burn Gorman, and Clifton Collins Jr. get their moments as well.
Conspicuously absent from these shenanigans, however, is Idris Elba. Maybe he's so cool and competent that he never, ever makes mistakes. Or perhaps the person who cut together the video was simply terrified of him. Who could blame them, after that "Don't you ever touch me again" scene?
Pacific Rim hits DVD and Blu-ray on October 15.
