Hugh Jackman Denies $100 Million Wolverine Contract Rumors
Over the past six X-Men movies — seven if you count the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past — Hugh Jackman has proved invaluable to the Fox franchise. Indeed, he's so important to the series that this week's rumor that he'd been offered $100 million to stick around for four more installments sounded entirely plausible. That's not something you'd be able to say about most movie stars, no matter how lucrative their franchises.
However, Jackman has now gone on record denying that report. "I would never do that," he added. Hit the jump to read his comments.
No it's not true. I would never do that. I've never done that mainly because, for the fans and for me, each time I've gone around there's been a really good reason to do it and I don't know what that reason is from here. I'm in the middle of making this and I just promoted the other and I'm really happy with the way The Wolverine came out.
The wording is a little confusing here. I'm not totally sure what "that" is referring to, when he says he would "never do that." (Maybe it's the same thing Meatloaf said he wouldn't do for love.) But it sounds like he means he wouldn't sign a $100 million four-picture deal, because he wants to reprise the role when he has a reason to and not just for the sake of reprising it.
If Jackman is getting tired of Wolverine, he isn't showing any signs of it. It's hard to imagine Fox is ready to say goodbye to him, either. While Jackman may not want to commit to four more movies right at this moment, we're betting he's got at least another couple of turns in him.
Jackman's next appearance as Wolverine will be in X-Men: Days of Future Past due out May 23, 2014.
