Marvel's 'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Gets New Poster; Joss Whedon Talks Daily Involvement And Story Context
Marvel fans need only wait another few weeks before the latest addition to their favorite universe. No, Thor: The Dark World hasn't been moved up from its November opening. The ABC show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres September 24 and as that date slowly approaches, more and more information on the show is revealed.
Peter's already seen the whole pilot and, this weekend, it screened again at the Television Critics Association event. There, reporters talked to producers Joss Whedon, Jeph Loeb and others about the show. The pair once again discussed connections between the S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just how involved Whedon will be once Avengers: Age of Ultron starts filming and more.
Read about it below, and check out a brand new poster.
First up, here's the new poster.
Next up, here are some quotes from the event.
First up, Loeb discussed how they want the show to be a surprise every week and drive a larger conversation, like TV did years ago:
We're trying to bring back the urgency of television. While we welcome you downloading it, DVRing it, wouldn't it be great to get together Tuesday nights...and watch live?
Whedon was asked what notes ABC gave them about the show:
Honestly their biggest note after we presented the thing was, they wanted to make sure our investment in the characters and their interaction was as big as the case of the week. Which is how I've done all of my shows. I was told NOT to learn a new skill.
Both Whedon and Loeb discussed connections to upcoming Marvel movies like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. First is Whedon:
There will be as much as we can allow.... We're still working that out. We don't just want to be an Easter egg farm.... This show has to work for people who haven't seen the movies.
And Loeb:
Marvel is one universe, what's important is character.

Later, Joss Whedon spoke to EW about his day to day participation in the show:
I'm reading every script, every story, and giving notes and re-writes. I just can't be in the room every day. The group I have shares this hard-to-convey idea of how I want the show to feel.
But will he direct another episode after the pilot?
I don't think it will happen again for the next couple years, because I'm getting behind another camera in another country.
Referring, of course, to Avengers: Age of Ultron in early 2014.
Are you sufficiently hyped for this show? Do you think it's going to be a hit?
