Bryan Singer Shows Off Full-Sized Sentinel From 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past'
Earlier this month, we got our very first peek at a Sentinel from X-Men: Days of Future Past thanks to the Trask Industries display at San Diego Comic-Con. Earlier this week, we got a closer look at the Sentine's body via the Trask Industries website. Today, we can finally feast our eyes on a full-sized Sentinel, courtesy of director Bryan Singer's Twitter addiction. Hit the jump to check it out.
By the by, can I just say how much I love that this Sentinel is a bright, cheery purple? I was sure that if they ever made their way to the screen, they'd be turned a "grittier" shade of grey or black.
It's no secret that Sentinels are big, but it's been tough to tell just how big from the shots revealed so far. This full-body shot does a much better job of showing off the sheer scope of the thing. And while it's not quite at the level of a Pacific Rim Jaeger, it's still a good 20 feet or taller. Singer, whom IMDb claims is 5'10", barely comes up to its knee.
The Sentinels, for those unfamiliar with the Days of Future Past storyline, are one of an arsenal of anti-mutant technologies devised by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). The threat forces the X-Men in the present day to send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to the 1960s in an effort to convince the younger X-Men to prevent this dystopian future from coming to pass.
The time-traveling nature of the storyline not only links the original X-Men trilogy with 2011's X-Men: First Class, it offers Singer the chance to get all the X-Men — classic and new formulas — onscreen together. The sprawling cast includes Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, and Daniel Cudmore from the old movies and Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Lucas Till from the latest installment, plus newcomers including Omar Sy, Fan Bingbing, Adan Canto, Josh Helman, and Evan Peters.
How Singer plans to fit all those people in, I haven't the faintest. I suppose we'll see when X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014.
