In the previous trailers for Kick-Ass 2, something seemed to be missing. This is most certainly a sequel to Matthew Vaughn's film, sure. All the characters are there; the story is a continuation of the first chapter; and new heroes and villains are introduced. Yet something felt off. Writer/director Jeff Wadlow came into San Diego Comic-Con today hoping to change that.
He, along with stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (and Chloe Grace Moretz via satellite) premiered a brand new extended trailer that expands what we've already seen from Kick-Ass 2. Significantly. Now the film is starting to look like the kick-ass sequel we're hoping for.
Below, watch the new trailer and read about the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Here's the extended, red band trailer for Kick-Ass 2:
That footage was certainly the highlight of the panel and, as a big fan of Kick-Ass, the stuff with the Motherf***er choosing his team just made me squeal with delight. Here are a few other quick bullet points from the panel:
On the panel, Wadlow said he felt like he "won the fanboy lottery." He explained how he saw the original film in the theaters, loved it, and just happened to catch the attention of Matthew Vaughn when he did an unrelated pitch.
Each actor was introduced with a quick video montage featuring footage from both films. One highlight was hearing Clark Duke's character finally find out Dave is Kick-Ass, "It's like finding out your friend is Will Smith."
Christopher Mintz-Plasse had an acting coach on set to help him get into his truly evil character.
Chloe Grace-Moretz said while Hit Girl starts the movie out as a normal, high school girl, she finally realizes Mindy and Hit Girl are one in the same.
Nicolas Cage's character, Big Daddy, may not be in the film but his presence is. Moretz said he sort of hovers over the film like a Godly figure.
Wadlow said they went on a global search for Mother Russia and jokes he's on some weird watch lists cause of the sites he visited.
Wadlow assured fans this was not a "rinse and repeat sequel." "We put the characters through a meat grinder," he said. On that note, he said while he loves the characters, they haven teven started thinking about a Kick-Ass 3.
