Eli Roth And Co-Writers Have Cracked The Feature Version Of 'Thanksgiving'
Eli Roth's fake trailer for a horror film called Thanksgiving was one of the highlights of both the omnibus feature Grindhouse and Roth's own career. And for years since the debut of Grindhouse Roth has discussed making a feature version based on the idea. But we've heard of little forward momentum on the project in quite some time.
Now Roth says that he and other writers have broken the story idea, and will shortly be cranking out a script. Perhaps by fall 2013 we'll finally be able to dig into a little horror feast.
Roth told Behind the Thrills,
[Thanksgiving] is gonna happen. I'm working with the Clown writers on it. We have a call scheduled tomorrow afternoon. Jeff Rendell, my co-writer on it, we have a very extensive treatment. We finally cracked the story and figured out how to really make it scary, and the reason to do it. I'm really excited about it. The Clown writers wrote one of the best scripts I've ever read, and before Jon Watts starts shooting Clown he's got a window, and Chris Ford, his movie Robot & Frank just opened, Chris and John are going to write the screenplay with me and my writing partner Jeff. So we'll have a draft soon.
As mentioned, Watts and Ford are the guys who made another fake trailer, called Clown, which purported to be a Roth film. It wasn't, but Roth liked the trailer, met the guys, and agreed to produce a full-length Clown film. So it makes a weird sort of sense that they would be helping write his own fake trailer to feature project.
For those who haven't seen the original Thanksgiving trailer, or just want to watch again, here you go. This one really isn't safe for work.
