Behind The Scenes Photos: Ryan Gosling In 'Only God Forgives'
Drive team Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling reconvened earlier this year to shoot the Thai-flavored western Only God Forgives in Bangkok. We've seen one photo of Gosling that comes from the film, but there wasn't much to that image.
Now a set of moody black and white photos has shown up online, and they do a nice job of complimenting the report of footage shown off late last week at Cannes. Check 'em out below.
AICN saw the footage, and compares it to Drive in some ways: " long tracking shots, liberal use of neon lighting (in this case purple and green) and a silent, but violent Ryan Gosling." In his article, Quint describes a brutal fight scene, but as the footage didn't provide any story context beyond some titles written in Thai, he couldn't place where it might fit in the film. Suffice to say that those who liked the violence in Drive will likely be satisfied.
Meanwhile, these shots do a good job of suggesting the film's mood. (Though, as noted above, the movie is in color, not black and white.) Images are via Kinopoisk and Empire.

Here's the synopsis for the film, which Refn wrote and directed; Kristen Scott Thomas also stars.
Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family's drugs smuggling operation. When Julian's brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian's contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.
