Wes Anderson's 'Moonrise Kingdom' Trailer
One of my most anticipated films of the year now has a trailer and I'm over the moon about it. The film is Moonrise Kingdom, the latest from the great Wes Anderson. It stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman in the story of two twelve year olds (Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward) who fall in love and run away into the woods leaving an entire community on the lookout.
Read more about the film, which will be released May 25, and check out the trailer below.
You can watch the trailer in full HD over at Apple. We've got an early embed below thanks to The Film Stage.
Here's the official plot description:
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl's parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.
Being a huge fan of Anderson's, this trailer had me smiling from ear to ear. All of his trademarks are there – the great actors, the direct camera angles, slow motion, foreign music and, of course, a generally upbeat quirkiness. Plus, all of the adults in the film look like they are having a blast with these characters. Just in this trailer you see Edward Norton with his "Jiminy Cricket, he flew the coop" line, Bruce Willis deputizing a boy with an eye patch, Jason Schwartzman looking like a evangelic boy scout and Bill Murray going to cut down a tree in his underwear.
In fact, this trailer is so "Wes Anderson" it's almost in danger of being "Too Wes Anderson." Except, I don't think such a thing exists. Is it May 25 yet?
