'The Trip' Trailer – Steve Coogan And Rob Brydon Bicker In Some Of England's Finest Restaurants
A new trailer has been released for Michael Winterbottom's The Trip, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as fictionalized versions of themselves — similar to what they did in 2006's Tristram Shandy: A C**k and Bull Story. When Coogan's (fictional) foodie girlfriend dumps him, he reluctantly invites Brydon to join him on a ten-restaurant tour of North England as part of an assignment for The Observer. Much bickering, sniping, and mimicking of Michael Caine ensues. Watch the trailer after the jump.

The Trip doesn't seem to have much of a story arc, and some of the scenes are downright predictable — of course the two men would wind up in a hotel room with only one double bed. But who needs meticulous plotting or unpredictability when we've got Coogan and Brydon fighting about their celebrity impressions over delicious-looking food?
Fans of British television may recognize The Trip as a pared-down version of a six-episode BBC Two sitcom of the same title. The series has been fairly well-received, earning two BAFTA nominations. The big-screen version has already screened at TIFF, Tribeca, and SFIFF; early reviews seem to have been mostly positive, although a few critics have complained that the endless banter gets old after a while.
