Spoilers Abound In New 'Scream 4' Photos, Wes Craven Addresses Script Issues
Scream 4 is done. It's out there. And as we ride a wave of publicity, press screenings and more leading up towards the April 15 release, fans will have to dodge an obstacle course of spoilers revealing who dies, when they die, how they die and, of course, who or what is Ghostface this time around. For the record, I have no idea – I'm also avoiding spoilers at all costs – so feel free to read on.
Besides the onslaught of spoilers, one of the film's biggest controversies was the reported creative differences surrounding franchise creator and the screenwriter of this fourth film, Kevin Williamson. We heard that sometime in the middle of production he left and Ehren Kruger (who wrote Scream 3 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) came in. Director Wes Craven has finally spoken out on these issues and while you can read his comments below, beware that we're also going to include some new photos, one of which is surely considered a spoiler. Feel free to read the quotes below but then watch out for the spoiler warning.
We'll talk with Craven first. The director spoke to Total Film Magazine (with a nod to Collider) about the issues surrounding the script and was extremely frank about it:
I was just stating the fact. In some ways it's a Wes Craven film, and in way it's not entirely, because it's not a script I have control of. It's ultimately controlled by what the studio wants in the script. My job is much more bringing whatever experience and expertise and creativity I can. Look, there was a bumpy period when things shifted over from Kevin to Ehren. I signed up to do a script by Kevin and unfortunately that didn't go all the way through the shooting. But it certainly is Kevin's script and concept and ideas and themes.
The positives? Williamson's work is still in the film. Negatives? The studio seems to be getting too involved with the creative process. In my estimation, except in extreme scenarios, once a studio greenlights a film, they should step back and let the filmmakers work. They obviously approved Williamson's initial screenplay, otherwise the film would not have been made so the fact they felt a need to step in doesn't exactly bode well for the movie.
Still, if the film is a hit, there's a chance Scream 4 could be the start of a new trilogy:
When I initially met with Kevin, he sketched out what the next two would be, and I found it really fascinating. A lot depends on whether they come up with scripts to flesh out. But certainly, I'm up for it, if the script is there. It's a fascinating thing to do two trilogies in a career.
I'll wait and see to pass judgment about that. I think the idea behind Scream 4 – of Sydney coming back to town for a book signing – is already a pretty huge stretch and dragging it into two more movies is frightening, but not in the good way.
Now it's time for the new photos, which originated on their Facebook page. Several of these photos are safe but the last one, while not explicitly revealing something, reveals enough. So – if you are afraid of spoilers – we urge you to go away.

Here are the photos. The one of Neve Campbell that's above, and below, is old but I don't remember seeing it so I figured I'd throw it in. The rest are new, though, including the spoiler pic.
