'Win Win' Trailer
Win Win is the latest film from The Station Agent and The Visitor director Tom McCarthy, and it got some stellar reviews out of Sundance. Watching this new trailer it is easy to see why. There's the cast (Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, Melanie Lynskey, Jeffrey Tambor, Bobby Cannavale) for one, and a story about redemption and family that looks like it has been handled in a way that will work perfectly.
If the cast and director hadn't already sold me, I would be locked thanks to the simplicity of some of the dialogue ("So what do we do?" "Go to Ohio and beat the crap out of his mom.") in conjunction with performances that seem quietly effective. I know this is the sort of role that Paul Giamatti has a tendency to fall back to, but he's so damn good at it. There isn't another actor who can do 'overworked everyman' like he can.
Apple has the trailer in HD. Fox Searchlight opens the film on March 18.
Tom McCarthy, acclaimed writer/ director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT, once again explores the depths and nuances of human relationships in his new film about the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters. Disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy's mother shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything. McCarthy's deft touch with balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in WIN WIN.
