Cool Stuff: Tim Doyle's 'Apocalypse Now' Posters
It's not quite the smell of napalm, but a brand new screen-printed poster smells pretty sweet too. Experience it yourself as one of our favorite artists, Tim Doyle, has just completed a set of posters for Francis Ford Coppola's classic Vietnam film Apocalypse Now to go with an upcoming screening at the Astor Theatre in Australia. The regular red version and gorgeous variant "Night on the River" version are on sale now at TommyGood.com. See the full images, find out when they'll go on sale and more after the jump.
These went on sale Tuesday afternoon via the TommyGood newsletter (which you can sign up for at the bottom of the linked page).

Doyle also did an awesome process blog post on this poster on his official site. Here is one of the highlights.
In a film as visually rich and diverse in location as Apocalypse Now, I didn't feel my usual 'pick a great scene, and reinterpret it from another angle' that I've been doing lately. It'd been a while since I did what I feel is a traditional movie poster, and wanted to show that I'm not a one-trick pony. I hate working in one style all the time. I did that 'Murray x6? print a while back, showing that I can nail a likeness no problem, and then spent the next year or so purposefully avoiding portraiture almost entirely, focusing more on environments and setting. With this one, I wanted to throw in some likenesses, montage/collage and design, and really kick it out. A lot of artists work in one style or deal with a predictable subject matter time and time again. It can be important for branding purposes- as it makes the artist quickly recognizable.
And also, Doyle posted this photo showing some of the detail that went into this poster. So cool.
Are you fan of Doyle's stuff? Are you going to try and pick one of these up?
