'Priest' Trailer #2
We've seen one trailer for Scott Stewart's Priest, which adapts the Korean comic of the same name and reunites the director with his Legion star Paul Bettany. The film was once delayed a bit and was post-converted to 3D, but will hit theaters on May 13. Now there's a second trailer that uses a lot of the same elements as the first, but manages to make the story seem a lot more messy and incomprehensible.
The idea here seems to be to shoehorn every possible element in the trailer, so you'll see a lot of generic monsters (vampires, evidently) and a city that seems highly influenced by Judge Dredd. There's the dark city, a lot of bright Western-style action, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Frankly, I don't know what it all adds up to. While the first trailer gave me a reasonable idea of what to expect from the story, this seems like six different types of action thrown together.
A legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.
Yahoo has the trailer in HD if you want to enjoy the pretty bits that way.
