Carl Erik Rinsch No Longer Directing 'Logan's Run'
Much like the characters in Logan's Run, it seems directors of the proposed remake have a limited shelf-life too. Commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch had been attached to directed a remake of the 1976 feature film but has now left the project, which he was developing to shoot in 3D, to concentrate on Universal's 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves. This once again leaves Warner Brothers and producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman without someone to direct the script by Alex Garland. Directors such as Bryan Singer, Robert Schwentke and Joseph Kosinski have all previously been attached to direct the remake. Read more after the jump.
HeatVision broke the news of Rinsch, who was once attached to direct the Alien prequel too, leaving Logan's Run. He's been in heavy demand ever since his short film The Gift blew up and his commercials have gone viral in the past too. Apparently, he was developing both Logan's Run and 47 Ronin simultaneously and it became obvious that a decision had to be made. That decision became clear when Universal set a release date for 47 Ronin and began scouting locations. It's a go picture while Logan's Run still had a ways to go.
And now, it has a lot longer to go. According to the story, producers aren't going to wait for Rinsch and are now free to move on to someone else. But it's almost as if the project is cursed. People have been attached to it for years but, for one reason or another, it just never gets off the ground.
For anyone who doesn't know, Logan's Run is about a futuristic society where you only live until the age of 30, at which point you're killed. That is, of course, until one man runs away and finds out the truth about his existence. Looking at it now, the original film is super-duper cheesy, but the concept remains solid. This is one remake I'm actually anxious to get done.
Why do you think Logan's Run keeps running into all of these problems?
