Red Band Movie Trailer: 'I Love You Phillip Morris'
I Love You Phillip Morris has yet to hit the big screen in America and it's already infamous. After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009, the film attracted controversy for its explicit portrayal of two gay lovers, played by Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. It then went through several lengthy, well publicized behind-the-scenes battles with companies purchasing it, setting release dates, folding, then taking it off the table completely. Finally, it seems as if the gay con man comedy will be released on December 3 and a brand new, Red Band trailer for this incredible true story has come online. We've got it after the jump and while it's possible you've feel bludgeoned by news about this movie (we have, after all, posted several trailers already) having seen the flick myself, this is probably the best representation of it to date.
Here's the trailer, complete with new release date, new website and more. Warning. It contains some possible NSFW images and language.
What's so surprising about I Love You Phillip Morris is not the gay content, the performances by Carrey and McGregor or the humorous tone. It's actually that the film takes you places you don't expect it to go and you walk out of the theater wanting to learn more about this remarkable true love story. The marketing has done a pretty good job of hiding the real meat of this great little movie and I'm very excited to see a final cut of it. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has already made over $18 million internationally and while those countries might typically be more open to the heavy gay subject matter, I think that positive reviews and Carrey's name will be enough to turn it into something of a sleeper hit here too.
Are you going to seek this movie out on December 3? Has its storied history in anyway changed your perception of it?
