Kristen Bell Wants A 'Veronica Mars' Movie Enough To Finance It Herself (Or Maybe A Web Series)

Or so a headline trumpets in The Hollywood Reporter.

Veronica Mars is the TV-to-film project that has been the subject of nearly as much speculation as Arrested Development, but every time creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell talk about a possible film, it always comes down to one thing: Warner Bros. holds the rights to the series and isn't interested in making the film. The reason: not enough of an audience to make it a financial sure thing. But what about other options, like self-financing or a web series?

Without having a direct quote from Bell, THR says she'd finance the film if that would get it going, but the actress also cites the same WB reluctance that has grounded development so far.

At this point, Warner Bros. can make it but like any studio they have research that tells them whether or not they'll make their money back...And that's what we've been told: That it's just not there. So my duty, because I wanted this movie made from the minute our show got canceled, is to a) do it before I'm 40; and b) to prove to Warner Bros. that there is an audience. You already have 3 million who watched it every week hardcore fans that will see it — you can only build from there.

Bell says that she and other key series participants would probably settle for a web series to revive the story, but she thinks "we all really want to push for the movie if it can happen." A web series would certainly be cheaper, but would WB be any more willing to let that move forward?
