Kevin Durand Joins I Am Number Four And Real Steel
Kevin Durand is in talks to join two DreamWorks sci-fi action films:
Durand played bad guy Martin Keamy in Season 6 of Lost, Joshua on the Show Dark Angel, and has hard parts in Walking Tall, Smokin' Aces, Wild Hogs, 3:10 to Yuma, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Legion, and recently played Little John in Robin Hood. More details on both projects after the jump.
I Am Number Four
Here's the plot of the novel:
I AM NUMBER FOUR focuses on the fate of nine gifted children and their guardians, the sole survivors of a bitter war on their home planet called Lorien, who have settled on Earth under the protection of a charm that means their enemies can only kill them in numeric order. Three of the nine are dead; the novel's narrator is number Four. The nine children and their guardians evacuate to earth and the protagonist, a Lorien boy named John Smith, hides in Paradise, Ohio, as a human and tries to evade his predators.
Durand will join Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker and Beastly star Alex Pettyfer, who is set to play the lead character – Four, Teresa Palmer, who will play Number Six, District 9 star Sharlto Copley who will be playing the man who "hailed from the alien world's serving class but now is the title character's adult guardian and mentor," and Glee star Dianna Agron who plays a character whs initially dating a jock, but she falls for Four and he confides to her the truth of his predicament.
According to THR, Durand is playing the commander of the aliens who are hunting the survivors down on Earth.
The screenplay adaptation was written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, which kind of makes sense if you think about it (teenage aliens that fall from space to earth?). Caruso is of course the director responsible for Taking Lives, The Salton Sea, Two for the Money and more recently, Disturbia and Eagle Eye. Bay has previously been developing the project as a potential directing gig.
The first book of the planned four six book series written by A Million Little Pieces author James Frey and Jobie Hughes, is set to hit book store shelves on August 17th, 2010. You can now preorder the 352-page book on Amazon for around $11-$12. The project was fast tracked after the release and success of District 9. Dreamworks has set a February 18th 2011 release date for the movie.
The film, set to hit theaters on November 18th 2011, tells the story of a father and his estranged 11-year-old son who enter the world of robotic boxing. You see, in the future, human boxing has been outlawed, replaced with sports combat between human-trained 2000-pound heavy steel robots. Levy has described the story as "rousing sports movie". Hugh Jackman will an ex-fighter who has "to reinvent himself when human boxers are replaced by robots" and finds that he has an 11-year-old son. He decides to become a promoter , but "access to sub-standard robot parts hampers his hopes for glory in Robot Boxing, until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win." He bonds with his son over the robot fights.
Durand joins 11-year-old Canadian Dakota Goyo , who plays the lead role — Max, described as "a street-smart, tough, charming kid with a hard, untrusting outer shell which hides a warm enthusiastic spirit beneath. He is a complicated, strong-willed and resourceful boy." Durand would play a Texan promoter of robot boxing.
