Little Miss Sunshine: The Musical?

Hollywood use to make a lot more big screen adaptations on live stage plays. These days, it seems that most stage plays are adaptations of Hollywood films. This type of closed circle leads to big screen adaptations of board games and action figures.

... and now... Little Miss Sunshine?

Entertainment Weekly has now learned that a musical based on Fox Searchlight's indie film sensation Little Miss Sunshine will premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse in February 2011. The Academy Award-winning dysfunctional family dark comedy will be adapted by William Finn and three-time Tony Award-winner James Lapine, who previously collaborated on The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

But will the more subtle humor and moments from the film translate to the stage?
