Buried Teaser Trailer And Clip: Will Ryan Reynolds Shine Underground?
We were surprised and interested when word came down that Ryan Reynolds would be the star of what amounts to a one-man show in the movie Buried. As details came out — Reynolds plays a civilian contractor trapped in a coffin with only a cell phone and a lighter — the movie got more intriguing. Now there's a teaser trailer and a scene clip to show what director Rodrigo Cortés has in mind.
MTV has the first teaser trailer today, in preparation for the film's debut at Sundance. It's a grainy clip, meant to represent a cell phone video that Reynolds' character shoots to communicate a ransom demand to the outside world. It's an effective little piece of film that does a nice job communicating the core idea of the film.
The only thing that worries me here is the longer clip also hosted by MTV. I understand that with only one actor and one setting on which to focus, there's a need to do something to keep the film from being too static. But if there is a lot of that rotating lens trick that we see in the first half of this scene, I might lose my mind. Not that this makes me any less interested in seeing the film.
This is the official synopsis:
Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is a U.S. citizen working as a contract driver in Iraq. After a swift and sudden attack on his convoy, he awakens to find himself buried alive inside a coffin with nothing more than a lighter, a cell phone, and little memory of how he ended up there. Faced with limited oxygen and unlimited panic, Paul finds himself in a tension-filled race against time to escape this claustrophobic deathtrap before it's too late.
Here are the embeds; the teaser is first, then the scene.
