Edgar Wright Wants To Make Baby Driver Next
While Edgar Wright continues to shoot, vlog and photoblog his way through Scott Pilgrim Versus the World, we in the geekosphere are getting slightly ahead of ourselves. Just what, we desperately want to know, will his next picture be? Will it be Ant-Man, the one Marvel movie so far announced that I can muster genuine giddy excitement for? Will it be the final installment in the Blood and Ice Cream/ Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, following Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and so far known as The World's End? Or will it be, as I've already suggested in a larger, bolder font, up there, his action/crime movie Baby Driver?
Well, yes, it will probably be Baby Driver. Empire spoke to Wright, and garnered the following leads:
I'd like to make Baby Driver next if possible. On this film and other things I've been blogging furiously and putting up a photo every day, but I think when I do that one I'd like to go completely silent for once. Probably because it's not an adaptation or anything, or a sequel to anything else. I'd like to just make it in private, basically.
Simon's not involved in Pilgrim. And I was kind of involved with Paul as a producer at the start, but basically I can't be in two places at once. I'm not one of those people who can do three things at the same time, even though I try to be. So once I'm doing one thing, like this, I'm only doing this. Other things – like Ant-Man and me and Simon's next film – have all gone away until I'm done with this.
Baby Driver is, as far as we can tell so far, an all-Edgar, all-the-time deal, which he has created himself and will script and direct. That alone has me absolutely hooked. Whether the title is using Baby as a noun (ie. somebody drives babies) an adjective (ie. a baby drives) or a proper noun (ie. Mr. Baby Driver, Esq., star of the Simon & Garfunkel song) I do not know but I'm hoping, real bad, that it isn't the second one.
