Ben Stiller And Reese Witherspoon Cast In Cameron Crowe's Next Movie

The only things we know about Cameron Crowe's latest project is that yet-to-be-titled contemporary-set "romantic comedy adventure" was written by Crowe, will star Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon, will begin shooting in January 2009, and will be released by Columbia Pictures, who won a bidding war over four rival movie studios. Oh, and we can assume that it will have a killer soundtrack, because after-all, it is a Cameron Crowe movie.

I hate to say it, but it's becoming clear to me that Cameron Crowe hit his peak with Almost Famous. I know it's way too early to judge this project (especially considering how little we actually know about it), but something rubs me wrong about simplistic typical romantic comedy casting of Stiller and Witherspoon. It seems light years off from the choices that made Almost Famous such a great movie. And it isn't that Witherspoon and Stiller aren't capable of a great film, they just come off as generic choices. The fact that five movie studios were vying for the right to produce this film makes me hopeful that it will be something more than that.
