World Of Warcraft Movie In 2009? To Be Rated PG-13?
Our friend Paul at FofR sent us the following scoop on the big screen World of Warcraft movie which is currently in development at Legendary Pictures. The new details were revealed today at BlizzCon 2007 by 300 producer Thomas Tull, who stated that a budget of over $100 million would be committed to the project, which is aiming for a 2009 release. The movie will supposedly be set one year before the events of WoW, and will take place from an alliance perspective.
"We're going to be looking for someone of Zak Snyder (300) or Chris Nolan (The Dark Knight, Batman Beings) calibre," said Tull who revealed that the company is aiming for a PG-13 rating. "I can tell you that this is the one thing about running a studio and making these things that's hard. You want to not compromise and have the right level of intensity. The story and the director's vision is what's ultimately going to dictate that. Personally one of my favorite movies of all time is Lord of the Rings, which has a PG-13 rating."
I've never played World of Warcraft, and I have never quite understood the obsession with the game. I can tell you that I have lost friends to the fiction online world of fantasy, so it must be good. That said, I find it very disappointing that in a post-Sin City and 300 world, they would not choose to make this film the way it deserves to be: R-Rated. The action sequences should be bloody and intense. The language between the warriors shouldn't be "PG-13". The 9 million players worldwide deserve better than a watered down version.
