JJ Abrams Says Ethan Haas Has "Nothing To Do With" Cloverfield

On July 5th, in our continuing Cloverfield coverage, we wrote an article titled "Has Cloverfield Gone Viral?" In the article, we wondered if a viral game site EthanHaasWasRight.com was really related to JJ Abrams top secret monster film.

I'm still unable to confirm that this website is related the Cloverfield, and I have my suspicions otherwise. The posting on the blogspot site were made over the past two days, and seem to suggest a Cloverfield link. The EthanHaasWasRight website is not new. It seems to have been up earlier last month, and was registed long before the 01-18-08.com website.

My posting was greeted by more than a couple angry replies. People didn't understand why I would doubt the validity of this new viral game website. They had already been sucked into the game, and refused to believe they wasted their time. I hate to say I told you so but... well, I told you so. Producer JJ Abrams e-mailed AICN to set the record strait.

"Regarding the online stuff you posted: yeah, we're doing some fun stuff on the web. But, obviously, if the movie doesn't kick some massive ASS, who gives a rat's about what's online? So as you can imagine, we're focusing mostly on THAT," Abrams wrote. "For what it's worth, the only site of ours that people have even FOUND is the 1-18-08.com site. The others (like the Ethan Haas sites) have nothing to do with us."

So there you have it – Abrams says the Ethan Haas site is not legit. This also confirms that the Parasite movie website url that is going around the web is also not legit. I suspect that many people will refuse to believe this even now that JJ has come out of hiding to clear the air. Some people might say this is another part of the game. For those of you who believe that, or believe that this is actually a Voltron movie in disguise – there is truly no hope.

On the other hand, shortly after AICN posted the Abrams e-mail, a new site showed up – slusho.jp. As we've previously told you, one of Cloverfield's on location production titles was Slusho. Hardcore fans of Abrams' Alias may remember as the Slurpee-type beverage that Vaughn offers to Sydney in the second episode of the series. The website seems to be for the Slurpee-type beverage. Could this be one of the Cloverfield viral websites that had yet to be found (according to Abrams earlier tonight)? The domain was purchased on June 27th 2007, six days before the Cloverfield trailer hit theaters. But it is possible that someone knew about the production alias before the trailer's release. So file this under "a possibility, but not confirmed".
