Fred Claus Movie Trailer: We've Lost All Hope
The teaser trailer for Fred Claus was crafted to appeal to all audiences. It featured Paul Giamatti as Santa and Vince Vaughn as Santa's bitter older brother Fred, sitting on a couch going back and fourth. The two actors had a great comic chemistry that is seen rarely on the big screen. The teaser touted that the film was by the guy who did Wedding Crashers, which led most people to believe that this would be a more adult or at least "PG-13" Christmas comedy. But when they released a movie poster with the ninja elfs, we started to get worried. And for good reason.
Warner Bros has released the theatrical movie trailer for Fred Claus, and it's not looking good. I don't know how to put this, at least in a politically correct way, but I usually love when comedy films feature "little people" characters. I loved how Jon Faverau used and played with the "little people" conventions in Elf. I even liked the first Santa Clause (only the first one). But this film looks inherently unfunny. Aside from the main cast of Santa's family, the entire supporting cast play Santa's elfs, and they are played by, you guessed it – "little people". The trailer features a sequence with Vince Vaughn's character dancing on top of a table in the North Pole toy factory singing an Elvis song while the Elfs cheer him on. It made me want to puke. Why would Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, and Kevin Spacey resort to this? I know, making a family Christmas movie is like printing money, but I'm sure Vaughn, Giamatti and Spacey have enough big money offers already. And I would assume most of them would be more interesting than this. This could be one of the worst mainstream Hollywood Christmas movies since Jingle All the Way. But don't take my word for it, check out the new trailer after the jump.
