The Best TV Shows And Movies Coming To Netflix In November 2024

The Halloween season is nearly over. What does that mean, exactly? Fall is very firmly here and winter is just around the corner. November is coming to help us bridge the gap between spooky season and the Christmas season. It's the most wonderful time of year and Netflix has a lot of great stuff coming our way that month. It's a lot more than the live clown show that is "Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson." From beloved comedies to what is sure to be a new campy holiday classic, I've highlighted some of the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in November for viewers to stream. Let's get into it!

Superbad

In the early 2000s, comedy found a new identity thanks to folks such as Adam McKay ("Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy") and Judd Apatow ("The 40-Year Old Virgin"). Greg Mottola, teaming up with writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, picked up that ball and ran with it to craft a true coming-of-age classic in the form of "Superbad." Raunchy, unashamedly R-rated, and full of now-classic one-liners, this tale of two best friends trying to get laid as their time in high school comes to a close is both of its time and timeless.

"Superbad" is a true time capsule of what growing up in the early 2000s was like, yet so many of the film's themes and the experiences its characters endure are universal, filtered through crass, brilliant hilarity. There's a reason why "Superbad" managed to break through at the box office in its day. Put simply, it's extremely funny. More than that, the characters actually resonate, from our leads Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) to the cops played brilliantly by Rogen and Bill Hader. Not to mention this being one of Oscar-winner Emma Stone's breakout projects. Top to bottom, this one is more than worth revisiting.

Whiplash

Damien Chazelle is best known now as the guy who directed "La La Land," which is one of the most successful musicals of the modern era, in addition to being associated with a legendarily brutal Oscar mistake. But Chazelle first made himself known to the world with a very different movie about music in 2014 with "Whiplash." This is the movie that won J.K. Simmons his well-deserved Oscar and may well be one of the best acting showcases of the last decade. For those who haven't seen it in a while or for those who have never seen it at all, 10 years later, it's the perfect time to change that.

The film centers on Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller), an ambitious young jazz drummer who is trying to make a name for himself at his elite music conservatory. When Terence Fletcher (Simmons), an instructor at Andrew's school known for his talent discovery and, more notoriously, his extreme methods, "discovers" Andrew, he brings the young drummer into his jazz ensemble, setting them both on a life-changing path. The film plays out like a tense thriller despite being about one's passion for music. It's a brilliant chronicle of the dangers of obsession, with what might arguably be one of the most satisfying endings to any movie of the last 20 years. It's truly the business.

Dirty Jobs

In the era of too many shows and too many streaming services, sometimes we just want to let some old-school, low commitment television hit us in the face. Fortunately, the first two seasons of Mike Rowe's "Dirty Jobs" are coming to Netflix to help provide some of that old-school feeling. Even though this Discovery series had previously existed exclusively on Discovery+ and Max, Warner Bros. has been licensing out its library in recent months. As such, Netflix viewers will benefit from watching Rowe get his hands dirty.

For those who haven't seen it, "Dirty Jobs" kicked off its 10-season run in 2003 and sees host Mike Rowe acting as an apprentice of sorts to people who perform dangerous or gross jobs. What makes it truly work is that Rowe actually performs these often difficult, sometimes strange, typically disgusting jobs alongside current employees. You can't fake what he's doing. It's fascinating, funny, and can help make one feel better about their own employment situation. It's perfect background, killing some time TV like we used to have in the heyday of cable.

Fast Five

For some, the "Fast & Furious" movies haven't been the same in recent years without the late Paul Walker's Brian in the mix. "The Fate of the Furious" and "Fast X" have their moments, to be certain, but the franchise, most would argue, is beyond its best days. Indeed, it's hard not to argue that the property's best day came in 2011 when "Fast Five" hit theaters. This is when the film series realized its true potential, going from street racing movies with a side of crime to full-blown, utterly absurd global action spectacles. It's also the best example ever of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being the key ingredient to making something better than it would have been without him. It's pure popcorn entertainment at its finest.

Directed by Justin Lin, the film sees Brian, Dom (Vin Diesel), and Mia (Jordana Brewster) seeking refuge in Rio de Janeiro after breaking Dom out of prison. To gain their freedom, they must do one final, dangerous job that requires assembling an elite team, all of whom know their way around a car. With the heroes caught between a corrupt businessman and a ruthless federal agent named Luke Hobbs (Johnson), there's action around every corner. The movie's finale even sees the crew dragging a gigantic safe through the streets of Brazil, ranking as the greatest (and most ridiculous) moment in "Fast & Furious" history. It's nonsense of the highest order and Lin's finest hour in the director's chair.

Hot Frosty

Would the holiday season be complete without a ridiculous new, Hallmark-esque holiday movie starring Lacey Chabert? No, it would not. After departing the role of Meg on "Family Guy," Chabert carved out a niche for herself as a go-to star for Hallmark and made-for-TV Christmas season flicks. Netflix is getting in on the business this year with "Hot Frosty" and, as the title implies, this one is particularly outlandish. The trailer above makes one understand why this is going to be essential viewing. As of this writing, it's not out yet, but "Hot Frosty" seems destined for cult status thanks to its premise alone.

The film centers on a woman named Kathy (Chabert) who, two years after losing her husband, magically brings a handsome snowman (Dustin Milligan) to life. Yes, really! This naive snowman becomes a fish out of water and helps Kathy love again as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays. Will director Jerry Ciccoritti deliver a campy favorite by being in on the joke? Will the film's cast play things so straight that it goes all the way around and comes out the same way as "The Room?" One can only hope. Morbid curiosity alone is going to get the best of a lot of us here.
