Here's Where You Can Stream Most Of The Spider-Man Movies

Spider-Man enthusiasts, here's some news that'll activate your Spidey-senses.

If you're anything like me, then this increasingly fractured streaming era continues to be a source of constant headaches. If you want to marathon any given franchise on one of the dozens of services you're subscribed to, well, chances are high that a number of those titles will be missing. You'll either have to rent, buy, or go out and purchase the actual physical copies of, say, the new "Planet of the Apes" movies if you had a hankering for watching Andy Serkis help bring on the downfall of the entire human race — and, quite honestly, why wouldn't you be in the mood for that? How about the "Mission: Impossible" movies? Well, unless you're subscribed to Paramount+ (and even that is no guarantee, as these streaming deals are always subject to timed contracts), that's going to be a tall task, too.

That issue becomes infinitely more complicated when talking about one of the biggest IPs currently around: superhero movies. While today's news won't address all the ills of streaming, it at least puts most of the "Spider-Man" movies in one handy streaming space.

Disney+ has officially announced that a number of "Spider-Man" movies (and one Spidey-adjacent spin-off) will be making their home on Disney+ very soon. And thanks to the multiverse shenanigans of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," I suppose this technically makes these movies at least tangentially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in retrospect. The entire Sam Raimi trilogy and Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" are all set to debut tomorrow, April 21, 2023. But wait, that's not all! Jon Watts' "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and, most importantly, the Ruben Fleischer-directed "Venom" are also set to join the fun next month on May 12.

That's a whole lot of Spidey goodness (and, frankly, quite a lot of badness, too) in one place, though obviously it's far from a complete collection. If anyone's truly concerned about "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" not being made available, well, I think there might be a support group for that kind of Stockholm Syndrome. It might raise a few eyebrows that neither "Spider-Man: Far From Home" or "No Way Home" aren't making the cut, either. But the lack of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is by far the most glaring, especially with its sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," due out in just a few months.

Still, it's remarkable that rival studios Disney and Sony have managed to clear up enough copyright issues to allow this streaming deal in the first place. It's one thing to move heaven and Earth for both to creatively collaborate on the MCU trilogy, for sure, especially given how "No Way Home" unites multiple different continuities together in one epic threequel. But it's quite another to do so with ever-complicated streaming licenses, which typically require a level of business acumen and contract language that's way above my pay-grade.

The important thing here is that Disney+ subscribers will soon be able to stream two great "Spider-Man" movies (all hail Sam Raimi!), a fascinating misfire (if you don't like dancing emo Peter Parker, we can't be friends), a bizarre and fundamentally broken origin story that way too many people gave a pass on the first time around (Spidey by way of "Twilight"? 2012 was a weird time, folks), and a schlocky disasterpiece that we all agreed to ironically support and then never mention again (Venomheads, this is for you).
