Grogu And The Mandalorian Could See Their Roles Reversed In Season 3
"The Mandalorian" has become synonymous with the relationship between its title character, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), and the young former Jedi-in-training of dubious heritage, Grogu. The two of them have a really special dynamic that has been captivating to watch over two seasons and the "Book of Boba Fett" spinoff, especially since we had no idea such a relationship would form before the series' premiere. Thankfully, we do now, and since "The Book of Boba Fett" (which was essentially "The Mandalorian" season 2.5) ended with Din and Grogu reuniting, we'll be getting to see more of them in the upcoming third season.
However, we may be seeing a different side to their relationship this time around. In an interview with Digital Spy, Pascal teased how viewers can expect to see Din and Grogu's roles slightly change for the better:
"It's such a beautiful dynamic that exists between Din and Grogu; protector, protected. And how that dynamic can be reversed, and that there's so much layering within their relationship."
That layering is also expected to expand throughout the third season. What was considered "instantly relatable" about the dynamic between Din and Grogu will now be given an entirely new perspective. At least, that's what Pascal cryptically teased:
"It doesn't limit itself to that kind of immediate charm, if that makes sense. The show introduced something that we fell in love with so quickly, but then there's just so much more to do with it and explore."
Putting their relationship to the test
This sounds really interesting, especially with the point Pedro Pascal makes about how Din is the protector and Grogu is the protected. Given how the third season is expected to dive deeper into Mandalorian culture, it probably won't be surprising if more of Din's mysterious backstory is revealed. Will Grogu end up becoming the rock that the usually-stoic bounty hunter needs? Only time will tell.
However, what we do know is that this upcoming third season of "The Mandalorian" is expected to go further into its corner of the "Star Wars" universe than ever before. After being all but excommunicated from the Children of the Watch for breaking their cherished helmet rule, Din will be on a journey of redemption and self-discovery with Grogu by his side. Fans could even get to learn more about the Mandalorians as an organization, as several different Mandalorians have been seen in trailers and promotional material in season 3.
What all of this means is still unclear, especially after Pascal's comments on the new side of Din and Grogu's relationship. However, we're sure all our questions will be answered when season 3 of "The Mandalorian" begins streaming on Disney+ on March 1, 2023.
