Upload Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
Amazon Prime Video's "Upload" is a multi-genre series that blends science fiction with comedy, romance, and the supernatural. Set against the background of the afterlife (or many, many versions of it), the show tells the story of a man who dies and is uploaded to a "digital afterlife program." After Nathan's (Robbie Amell) untimely death in a tragic accident, his consciousness is uploaded into an after-death virtual living facility called Lakeview. The romance between Nathan and Nora (Andy Allo), the living customer service angel he interacts with through his hologram form, also makes the crux of the story. The futuristic society functions with complicated, advanced technology at the center and comes from Emmy-winning writer Greg Daniels, who is known for his creative work on popular comedies such as "The Office," "Parks and Recreation," and "King Of The Hill."
The show's first two seasons are currently streaming on Prime Video, and "Upload" has been renewed for a third season. With questions about the true nature of Nathan's premature death looming over the afterlife corporation on the show and the complications keeping Nathan and Nora apart (apart from the fact that he's a hologram; a virtual version of his living self), there's a lot to be excited about ahead of season 3. Here's everything we know so far about the show.
Everything we know about the story of Upload season 3
We saw Nathan struggle quite a bit during season 2 of "Upload" as he navigated Nora's disappearance while trying not to get distracted by his pre-death girlfriend Ingrid and her influence after she managed to get access to Lakeview. Then there's the season 2 cliffhanger which leaves the story more complicated than it already is: Nathan sends his consciousness into a physical body grown for him by Ingrid ... who also doesn't happen to be dead: she's just using a hug suit, a virtual reality suit she used to hang out at Lakeview and communicate with Nathan from beyond the grave.
Season 3 should explore these developments and give us more clarity about what's going on, and we'll hopefully soon have a trailer to attest to it. If there's anything we can hope for, though, it is that "Upload" season 3 will continue to be a murder mystery and a love story rolled into one.
Everything we know about the cast of Upload season 3
The primary cast of "Upload" will return for season 3. Robbie Amell will continue to lead the sci-fi series as the tech-guy-turned-dead-guy Nathan. Andy Allo reprises her role as Nora, Nathan's virtual-reality representative and near-leader of an anarchist anti-tech group. Allegra Edwards is playing Ingrid, Nathan's ex-girlfriend from his days of living, who is going to dangerous, extreme lengths to keep him around her.
Other cast members expected to return are Kevin Bigley as Luke, and Owen Daniels, who will portray A.I. Guy, Zainab Johnson, who stars as Aleesha; Josh Banday, who will play Ivan. There's also Andrea Rosen returning as Lucy, and joining the cohort is Jeanine Mason as Karina Silva, a new Horizen executive in charge of cybersecurity, among other things. Greg Daniels continues to serve as the show's sole showrunner and will be at the helm.
Everything we know about the release date of Upload season 3
"Upload" season 2 aired its final episode in March 2022, and season 3 is expected to start production soon. We don't have a release date for the show yet — the streaming service hasn't made a trailer or any footage for the new season available as of now. Much speculation exists, noting that "Upload" season 3 could be aiming to arrive in the first quarter of 2023. It has been many months since Amazon announced the show would return for a third outing, so we should hear more about their release schedule soon. You can watch this space for more information; we'll be sure to let you know when we hear more.
Until then, you can rewatch the first two seasons and prep for the third: Nathan and his misadventures will return to our screens shortly.
