Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Will Feature Kevin Conroy's Final Performance As Batman
With this year's Game Awards came a slew of new trailers and first looks at upcoming video games. However, one unexpected development from this year's show was the reveal of Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman. Conroy has become synonymous with the caped crusader, and the sad news of his passing last month at the age of 66 made game developer Rocksteady's announcement at the Game Awards bittersweet. Kevin Conroy has had a long working history with the studio, as the actor voiced Batman in their "Arkham" trilogy of games.
Their last game in the series, "Batman: Arkham Knight," was a definitive conclusion to this iteration of Batman and seemed like the end of Rocksteady's time of bringing Batman to life. However, this latest clip for their highly anticipated video game "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League" revealed its inclusion of Conroy's Batman, with a touching tribute at the end of the video thanking Kevin Conroy for all his years playing the character. Conroy is just as famous for his role as Batman in video games as in animated series and films, with games such as the "Injustice" series and the previously mentioned "Arkham" series giving us some truly great Batman moments brought to life by the late voice actor.
A Rocksteady reunion
"Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League" centers around members Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark as they're sent to Metropolis to handle members of the Justice League whose minds have been taken over by Brainiac. A subversion of usual comic book video games, the Justice League serves as the antagonists and main "bosses" for players to beat. The short clip from the upcoming game showed the squad stowing away an incapacitated Flash in a building before the reveal that they're prey stalked by a Braniac-controlled Batman. The clip ends with Conroy saying one of his most iconic phrases as Batman: "I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman."
Rocksteady ended their showcase with the simple "Thank you, Kevin," getting fans excited to hear Conroy voice Batman one last time. There have been questions surrounding the "Suicide Squad" game and its inevitable inclusion of Batman, given that the Justice League is a crucial part of the game's story. Whether this version of Batman is the same as the one from the "Arkham" games remains to be seen. Regardless, it will be both exciting and bittersweet to see Conroy's Batman one more time, albeit in a mind-controlled state and much more violent than the character has ever been. Fans will have to wait a little bit longer to play the game and see what greater role, if any, Conroy's Batman plays in the story, set for release on May 26, 2023.
