Watch The Trailer For Nickelodeon's 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Animated Series
Michael Bay's live-action movie version of the Ninja Turtles may be on hold for now, but a small-screen iteration of the heroes in a half-shell are just around the corner — and this one even keeps their "Teenage Mutant" roots, so I bet a lot of you already like it better than you do Bay's movie.
Nickelodeon's updated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series is gearing up for a fall launch, and as such has just dropped an official trailer to air on Nickelodeon and Nick.com this week. Watch it after the jump.
If the fact that it's airing on Nickelodeon weren't enough of a giveaway, the goofy jokes should really drive home the point that this show is aimed at children. Michaelangelo gets the most lines, maybe because he's the one with the most playful sense of humor.
And speaking of lines: Do the Turtles sound just a bit familiar to you? As we've previously reported, the heroes are being played by some recognizable voices. Notorious pie lover Jason Biggs (of all people) stars as team leader Leonardo, and Sean Astin plays hotheaded Raphael. Rob Paulsen, who voiced Raphael in the '90s series, takes over as brainy Donatello in the new version, while Ben 10 star Greg Cipes rounds out the cast as "wild one" Michaelangelo.
In addition to a fresh cast of voices, the Turtles are debuting a bold new look. They don't look exactly like the characters we first encountered in the late '80s, but that strikes me as a good thing. I dig the chunky new style, and their post-makeover appearances are definitely more in line with modern tastes. We're sure to get a better look before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premieres this fall on Nickelodeon.
Discuss: Will you check out the show when it airs, or is it too kid-oriented for your taste?
