Two More Join 'Hunger Games,' Deals Possibly Offered To Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci And Lenny Kravitz
Though they didn't rank on our list of top ten roles yet to be cast in The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has announced two more child competitors to battle to the death in the upcoming Gary Ross directed film. Chris Mark and Jackie Emerson will play the District 5 Tributes. Fans know the female District 5 tribute, nicknamed "Foxface," becomes a significant and worthy foe for Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson).
And while we're on the topic of Hunger Games, Vulture is reporting that offers went out to Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz to appear in the film. What roles are they for? And wasn't Vulture already wrong about John C. Reilly as Haymitch? Read more after the jump.
The tribute casting was, once again, announced on the official Hunger Games Facebook page. And while Mark's role isn't that significant, Emerson's is. Here's a bit of information about the character from the Hunger Games Wiki:
A mysterious character, the District 5 female tribute is known by no other name. Foxface never says a word throughout the book, even though Katniss heard her laugh after the Careers' food supply was destroyed, but it is obvious that her goal is to survive. Quick and clever, she dashes in and out of traps to collect what she needs without bloodshed or contact with anyone.
The other names mentioned would, more than likely, all be for more significant roles. According to Vulture, Woody Harrelson has been offered the role of Seneca Crane, the head gamemaster of the Hunger Games (which was sort of #10 on our list). As for Tucci and Kravitz, their roles remain a mystery, but it's surmised that Tucci could be Katniss's stylist Cinna (a major role, #2 on our list) and that Kravitz might be one of his helpers (#4 on our list).
All of these rumors come from Vulture, who reported last week that an offer was out to John C. Reilly to play the pivotal role of Haymitch. Soon after, that rumor was debunked by Reilly's camp. However, I don't think that ruins the credibility of this rumor in the slightest. It's sometimes easy to forget that people in this industry lie. A lot. Whenever a site gets a scoop before it's been officially announced, no one – repeat NO ONE – confirms it. Then comes the debunk of a debunk or, as I like to call it, the rebunk, where it's revealed that the original story was right all along.
So though Reilly's people denied the scoop, and Harrelson, Tucci and Kravitz's might too, I tend to believe that the offers were, at the very least, given out. Whether or not each actors accepts the role is a whole other thing entirely.
Vulture even goes so far to explain that the security on this film is very tight:
The paranoia and secrecy surrounding The Hunger Games at Lionsgate Films have reached a level befitting the totalitarian state of Panem: We're told that not only are Hollywood agents being forced to sign nondisclosure agreements in order to receive offers for clients, but that even their assistants are being forced to sign NDAs, too.
Do you think they're just covering their ass? Do you believe that these offers have gone out? What roles do you see each actor in?
