Tracy Morgan Gets Into 'Fist Fight' With Ice Cube And Charlie Day
One of the most emotional moments in an Emmys telecast full of emotional moments was the surprise appearance of Tracy Morgan, 15 months after the terrible accident that took him out of commission. But now that he's on the road to recovery, Morgan's wasting no time getting back to work. He's just signed on for the comedy Fist Fight, his first movie role since the incident.
Ice Cube and Charlie Day also star. Get more details on the Tracy Morgan Fist Fight movie after the jump. TheWrap reports Morgan is currently in negotiations for the New Line project. Fist Fight will be the feature directing debut of Richie Keen, a TV vet who's directed episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (which stars Day), Maron, and The Comedians. Evan Susser and Van Robichaux wrote the script.
The film follows two teachers who work in a broken-down school system. Day is a mild-mannered teacher challenged to a fist fight by his much tougher colleague, played by Ice Cube. Dean Norris of Breaking Bad fame will play the school's principal, and 22 Jump Street breakout Jillian Bell will appear as a guidance counselor. According to Variety, Morgan will play a coach who also works at the school
Following the end of 30 Rock in 2013, Morgan competed two voice roles in Rio 2 and The Boxtrolls and a live-action appearance in Chris Rock's Top Five. All were filmed before the June 2014 accident, in which a limo carrying Morgan and several others was struck by a Walmart tractor trailer. The crash claimed the life of Morgan's friend and collaborator James McNair and put Morgan into a coma for several days.
After spending the past year in recovery, Morgan will be seen next month on Saturday Night Live, as the guest host of the October 17 episode. Fist Fight begins shooting this month in Atlanta. Shawn Levy is producing along with Max Greenfield and John Rickard. Day, Dan Cohen, Marty Ewing, and Billy Rosenberg serve as executive producers.
