Thanos Subreddit Will Balance Its Universe By Banning Half Its Users
If you're a member of the Thanos Did Nothing Wrong subreddit, your days may be numbered. In the tradition of the Mad Titan's Infinity War plan, the Thanos subreddit is going to randomly ban half its users, all in the sake of balancing the (online) universe. I hope they remember you.
Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now, it's here. At least, it is if you're a member of the Thanos Did Nothing Wrong subreddit. In a homage to Avengers: Infinity War, which concludes with Josh Brolin's Thanos snapping his fingers and making half the universe go up in smoke, the Thanos subreddit is planning to randomly ban half of its users. There's no way to predict just who will be banned and who will survive. You'll just have to cross your fingers and hope it's not you.
The plan was originally for this to happen right before 4th of July, but then things changed. One of the subreddit's moderates laid out how this will apparently go down (via Screen Rant):
"[A Reddit-Admin] told me that doing a massive ban the day before July 4 was a terrible idea, because many of Reddit's engineers would be out with their families. Also, the engineers would not be prepared for a mass ban so close to it. However, I presented a solution to these two problems, and now I have their permission to ban half the sub! The random 50% ban will take place on July 9th. The admins are designing a bot for me that will allow me to do the job in a quick and easy manner."
The randomness is the key here. It makes the whole endeavor a bit more vexing (if you care about this sort of thing). Who will be banned, and who will survive? Just like the end of Infinity War, you won't know until it happens. Should you suffer the wrath of Thanos' banning, you can continue on in other subreddits like r/SoulWorld and r/InTheSoulStone, which both play into popular fan theories about just what happened to all the Marvel characters who faded away to dust at the end of Infinity War.
So prepare yourself. Come July 9, if you're a Thanos Did Nothing Wrong member, you might find yourself suddenly not feeling so well, wishing you had your own Time Stone to turn back the clock and escape your cruel fate.
And what will this mass-Reddit banning cost? Everything.
