'Suicide Squad' Director Says Set Photos Didn't Ruin Any Surprises
For the past few weeks, the Internet has been plastered with photos from the set of Suicide Squad. We've seen Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomarang. More famously, we've seen Margot Robbie in multiple Harley Quinn outfits, Jared Leto as the Joker, the Joker's car, the Joker's car being chased by the Batmobile, and even Batman himself.
These were huge images from a movie that's still over a year away. Many people thought some major surprises had been spoiled. Apparently, that's not the case. The always-open writer/director of Suicide Squad, David Ayer, took to Twitter to reassure fans that nothing has been ruined.
Ayer posted the following on Twitter over the weekend, offering an update and message to fans:
Well we survived the streets. Time to go dark now. Remember, only the tiniest glimpse has been exposed. Our surprises are intact.

Ayer and the people at Warner Bros. aren't stupid. They knew very well by shooting on the streets of Toronto, photos were going to get out. If anything, maybe it was good for the production to let the photos happen. It will direct the conversation around the movie in a very specific way as Ayer continues production behind closed doors.
Due to the photos, everyone is talking about what the Joker looks like, his relationship with Harley Quinn, how Batman plays into the film, etc. All of that talk is ignoring the larger conversations like how and why the Joker and Harley Quinn fit into a larger story with multiple other comic book characters. How do those character fit into the larger DC universe? The Joker is so often the focus of a story, and in Suicide Squad he most likely won't be. That's gotta be the more interesting, spoilery angle on the film.
Then again, it would have been nice if Batman's presence in this film could have been kept secret. That would've been a great reveal. But if the filmmaker says it's not a spoiler, I'll trust him.
Do you feel spoiled by the Suicide Squad set photos?
