Video Proves 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Cross-Guard Lightsaber Is Functionally Awesome
Of the innumerable questions raised by the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren's lightsaber was right at the top. Fans were wowed by the visual power of the saber, which has a cross guard made of the same plasma as the primary blade, but immediately began questioning its functionality. Wouldn't it cut off the user's hands? Well, everyone up to and including Stephen Colbert came out to discuss the issue and most realized that it would be fine in the hands of a skilled swordsman.
Now, a new video has come to our attention that takes that proof a step further. A YouTube user named ThegnThrand created a mock version of the lightsaber, dipped the cross guard in paint, and did a full demonstration to prove not only is Kylo Ren safe with the lightsaber in hand, he has several advantages because of the additions. Check out the Episode 7 lightsaber video below.
Thanks to ThegnTharand for the Episode 7 lightsaber video. It takes a while to get going, but things really get cool at about 2:45 when he shows the alternate uses of those additions. (Thanks to SW 7 News for the heads up.)
We'll admit, the video is a bit cheesy. But it's hard to not be intrigued and excited by its revelations. If Ren uses the saber like this, he could be chopping off arms like it's his job.
Here's the official description of the video. Does this alleviate your worried about the Kylo Ren's lightsaber?
