'Star Trek Beyond': World Premiere Coming To Comic-Con With A Special Live Concert
Last night the latest Star Trek Beyond trailer debuted online after screening at a special fan event with director Justin Lin and some of the cast in Los Angeles. And along with all the new footage in the trailer, a big announcement was made that will please fans who are headed to San Diego for a certain comic book convention this summer.
Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Bad Robot have revealed that the world premiere of Star Trek Beyond will happen at San Diego Comic-Con with Justin Lin and cast members in attendance, and fans in the area will have an opportunity to attend. Find out more about the Star Trek Beyond Comic-Con premiere below.
The Star Trek Beyond Comic-Con premiere will kick off the convention on Wednesday, July 20th at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. There the film will be screened as the first ever open-air IMAX world premiere, right next to the ocean. But that's not all.
The screening of Star Trek Beyond will also be accompanied by a live concert where the San Diego Symphony Orchestra will play Michael Giacchino's film score. It's not clear if Michael Giacchino himself will be conducting the orchestra, but since it's the premiere, he should be in attendance, so anything is possible. In the press release announcing the special premiere at Comic-Con, director Justin Lin said:
"I am thrilled to celebrate the premiere of the film together with the fans at Comic-Con and excited for everyone there to experience Michael Giacchino's incredible score played live."
All of the fans who were in attendance at the special event in Los Angeles were invited to the world premiere, but even more fans will get a chance to attend the event at Comic-Con as well. However, you'll have to wait for details on how to get tickets until we get closer to the convention.
The good news is that a decent amount of fans should be able to get into the screening. The venue were the premiere is happening is the same location where last year's surprise Star Wars concert was held following the Comic-Con panel for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. All 6,500 people who were in Hall H for the panel received passes and were able to attend the concert, so hopefully plenty of tickets will be available for all the Trekkies in San Diego.
We'll be at Comic-Con this year providing coverage, and we'll probably have our reaction to the Star Trek sequel as soon as possible. For more on what's to come at the convention this year, stay tuned.
Star Trek Beyond, the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious" franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In "Beyond," the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
Star Trek Beyond opens in theaters on July 22.
